The new year prompts your mind to think of different ways you can be a better you – new diets start, old ones are changed, exercise equipment is bought or gym membership renewed, you vow to be a better, kinder, more patient person. All of these thoughts pop up like fireworks and are admirable goals. Very rarely do you hear someone say they are going to broaden their horizons and finally check off at least one destination on their bucket list. All too often, a vacation is put off year after year, many times putting it off entirely until retirement. It doesn’t have to be that way.
There are so many easy affordable ways to travel near or far, with a companion or by yourself, hosted travel, tours, groups, by air, sea, rivers. People who take vacations have lower stress, reduce their risk of heart disease, have a better outlook on life, and are more motivated to achieve goals. Vacations improve your mood and reduce stress by removing you from the activities and environments that are associated with stress and anxiety. Even a short few days away can reduce your stress level.
Whether a lifelong dream, a fun family destination, family/friend reunion or just a quick getaway, life is too short not to make wonderful memories. So, what’s on your bucket list?
